Dr Nasreen Shammas

A highly qualified and experienced surgeon, Dr Shammas is a fellow of the Royal Australian College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists.

She obtained her Bachelor of Medicine and Surgery in 1996, and went on with an internship which was completed at the Nepean Hospital.

Dr Shammas commenced her specialist training in Sydney in 2007 and she continued with this to complete a fellowship in 2013.

Specialist training

Dr Shammas is trained in minimally invasive surgery and is a certified colposcopist for abnormal CST smear. This is a procedure she is able to perform in her rooms which looks closely at the cervix, vagin and vulva to help locate and examine changed or abnormal cells. She performs most gynaecological procedures laparoscopically (minimally invasive keyhole surgery) which allows for a faster recovery. Dr Shammas is an advocate of natural birth, and supports women with twin pregnancies, previous Caesarean sections and uncomplicated breech presentation to have natural birth in subsequent pregnancies. She is highly experienced and well trained in performing complex Caesarean sections for complex pregnancies including breech presentation, abnormal placentation such as placenta previa and instrument births including forceps delivery.
